It was around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 4, 2011 and Luis Armandon Molina was driving his SUV, with his entire family in the car, when he spotted what he thought was his motorcycle in the back of a pickup truck. Believing that someone had stolen his bike, Molina gave chase until he lost control and flipped the SUV. His six-year-old daughter, Xitali, was thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead in the emergency room. I understand how important a man’s bike is. I also understand the urge to deliver justice on someone you feel has wronged you. But if ever there was an instance where using a cell phone while driving is justified, this is it. Two people are now dead in another instance where a rider has decided that it’s better to lead police on a high-speed chase than pull over for a traffic stop. The events leading up to the crash started in Wellington, Utah around 11:00 p.m. on July 28, 2011 when Carbon County police tried to stop a bullet bike that was speeding on Main Street. Rather than pull over, the rider led police on a chase that reached speeds over 95 miles per hour before officers called off the chase. Later that evening Carbon County Sheriff’s Office deputies saw the bullet bike and attempted to pull it over again.
