David Doss, 21, died when his motorcycle collided with a Henderson city truck in Henderson, Nev. Doss flew from his motorcycle and through the truck’s windshield. He was taken to the Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center, where he died from multiple injuries roughly eight hours after the accident.
Danielle Havis, 24, the on-duty city employee driving the truck at the time of the accident, suffered minor injuries. Havis was driving a Ford F-150 when she turned left in front of Doss’s Suzuki GSXR 600 on Whitney Ranch Drive. Havis stopped the vehicle to administer aid.
Witnesses said that Doss was traveling at high speeds during the accident. Police are currently looking into whether drugs or alcohol were involved in this fatal motorcycle accident. This is the city’s seventh fatal accident this year and 10th traffic-related death.
Speeding is a common factor in motorcycle accidents. In fact, close to 35 percent of motorcycle accident fatalities involved speeding, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Motorcyclists must always watch their speed; they are 37 times more likely to die in an accident than other motorists per mile traveled, according to NHTSA.
